Good Morning Friends,
“After six days Jesus took with him Peter,
James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by
themselves. There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun,
and his clothes became as white as the light. Just then there appeared before
them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus. Peter said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is
good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters -- one for
you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.’ While he was still speaking, a bright
cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my Son, whom I
love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!’” (Matthew 17:1-5)
Never before, and not since, has the world seen
anyone like Jesus! Moses and Elijah had been dead for thousands of years, yet
here was One who could talk even with them. This is a miracle that confirms the
certainty of life beyond death and confirms the authority and position of
Jesus.
But the miracle did not stop with the
appearance of Moses and Elijah. The voice of the Father Himself spoke from
heaven on behalf of Jesus: “This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well
pleased. Listen to Him!” It was a powerful affirmation of who Jesus is and the
simplest warning and instruction from God: listen to Him.
Many in the world, even many in the church,
need to hear that simple instruction anew! They affirm the truth of who Jesus is,
but do not listen to Him. Jesus said, “The words I have spoken to you are
spirit and they are life.” (John 6:63) The words Jesus speaks are life to us!
Listen to Him!
